Acne Injection
The key ingredient of the acne injection is steroid. It is injected directly into the acne spot. The drug can effectively hasten the resolution of inflammation. For cystic acne, the effect of topical medicines or skincare products alone is very limited. Acne injection can make the inflammation, tenderness and pain of cystic acne disappear much quicker. It is generally suitable for clients with important occasions such as interviews or weddings coming up within days and need the acne to quickly resolve.
Professional Peeling
Explore our professional peeling programs, Aladdin Peeling and Aqua Peeling. Aqua Peeling combines chemical and physical peeling methods, while Aladdin Peeling is a dermabrasion technique that peels off the outer layer of the skin using natural ingredients. They're both useful removing sebum, blackhead and white head effectively for clear skin.
Pico Fraxel
Pico Fraxel is one of the latest technologies proven to remove acne scars effectively. It has a very little damage to the epidermis, while projecting enough into the inner skin layers.
PDT
Our premium photodynamic therapy (PDT) is effective in treating purulent acne by suppressing overactive sebaceous glands and eradicating acne bacteria. The procedure comes with the best-in-class LED treatment using Bellalux for safe and effective procedure.
Oral & Topical Medications
For moderate to severe acne, we may prescribe oral or topical medications to reduce bacteria or inflammation.
2 Types of Acne
Acne can be divided into 2 types, non-inflammatory and inflammatory acne.
1. Non-inflammatory acne
Non-inflammatory acne doesn’t cause swelling of your skin. There are two main types of non-inflammatory acne: blackheads and whiteheads.
Whiteheads
Whiteheads form when pores are clogged with sebum and other debris like dead skin cells, the outer layer of the pore closes the sebum and debris in. This results in a small bump with a white tip that erupts from the skin.
Blackheads
When whiteheads are exposed to the air, oxidation occurs and they turn black, resulting in blackheads.
2. Inflammatory acne
Inflammatory acne causes inflammation and swelling, triggered by bacteria infection. According to the severity of the inflammation, it is divided into four categories: papules, pustules, nodules, and cysts.
Papules
The inflammation of the red pimples is relatively mild, and the main cause is skin inflammation due to clogged pores. Papules look pink and are slightly painful.
Pustules
Pustules are more serious than papules, with yellow and white pus appearing, and the surrounding skin becomes redder and more swollen.
Nodular
Inflamed nodules are more serious yet. This type of acne hides in the bottom layer of the skin and may leave scars after the acne disappears.
Cyst
Cystic acne is similar to nodular acne, but larger. The inflammation of this type of acne penetrates deep into the bottom layer of the skin and is filled with pus, which is also more painful. It takes a long time to heal, and it also has the highest chance of leaving a scar.
Acne locations
The main cause of acne is inflammation due to blocked sebaceous glands and hair follicles. Common acne locations include: forehead, chin, cheeks, temples, nose, mouth, eyebrows, back, chest, etc.
FAQ
Sebaceous glands in the skin produce sebum, which is an oily substance. When excessive sebum is produced, it mixes with dead skin cells to form a sticky mixture that clogs the hair follicles and pores. The trapped sebum and dead cells within the clogged pore develop an ideal environment for producing acne-causing bacteria. These bacteria can multiply and lead to inflammation of the pores. Thus, a red and swelling acne is formed.
The following are common causes of acne:
- Excess Sebum Production
- Clogged Pores
- Hormonal Changes
- Bacterial Infection
- Genetic Factors
- Certain Medications
- Dietary Factors
- Individuals’ lifestyle
Cystic acne is similar to nodular acne, but larger. The inflammation of this type of acne penetrates deep into the bottom layer of the skin and is filled with pus, which is also more painful. It takes a long time to heal, and it also has the highest chance of leaving a scar. Cystic acne is usually caused by the dead skin cells deep in the pores blocking the pores and the imbalance of oil and water in the sebum. This situation will aggravate the proliferation of acne bacteria, then the acne will become inflamed and swollen, forming cystic acne.
While this procedure can be quick and effective, pitting of the skin at the site of the injection may occur. This can result in a visible depression where the cyst was. These depressions are often temporary and resolve on their own.
