Common types of pigmentations
There are 4 types of common pigmentations, including: freckles, hormonal spots, sun spots and age spots. If you want to effectively remove spots, you must first understand the types and causes of pigmentation.
Freckles
Freckles are the most common type of pigmentation, most of which are light brown in color. Most of them are distributed on the cheeks, nose, back of hands and other places that are often exposed to sunlight. They are mainly related to genetics and sun exposure.
Hormonal Pigmentation (Melasma)
Hormone spots are darker pigmentation spots that usually appear on both sides of the face. The causes are generally related to hormones. Pregnancy, the use of contraceptive pills or hormone supplements may cause hormonal spots. Ultraviolet rays can deepen hormonal spots, and internal factors such as stress and emotions are also related to melasma.
Sun Spots (Lentigines)
Sun spots are spots caused by ultraviolet rays. Sun spots are similar to freckles. Compared with freckles, sun spots are darker in color and larger in size.
Age Spots (Solar Lentigo)
Age spots can be raised, sometimes rough to the touch, and generally appear light brown, brown or black. Like other pigmentation spots, they are caused by long-term sun exposure and tends to worsen with age. Nevertheless, even young and middle-aged people may have age spots.
Principle of Laser Pigmentation Removal
Laser pigmentation removal technology utilizes laser with different wavelengths – the laser targets only the pigmented lesion in the skin which absorbs the light without damaging the surrounding skin. The laser heats up and shatters the pigment, leaving the skin with an even tone and complexion.
Principle of Picosecond Laser Pigmentation Removal
The picosecond laser uses ultra-fast pulses to disintegrate pigment into very fine particles, making it easier for the body to excrete the pigmentation. Picosecond laser improves shallow, medium and deep pigmentation. A picosecond is equal to one trillionth of a second, which greatly shortens the time of laser heat emission and effectively reduces the effect of heat on the skin. Therefore, side effects such as inflammatory pigmentation, scarring, and peeling are less likely to occur. It is suitable for all skin types, with little to no recovery time.
Laser Acne Marks Removal
Types of Acne Marks
There are 4 common types of acne marks, including: post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (red marks, brown marks), bump holes and acne scars.
Red Marks
When acne heals, the surrounding blood vessels become swollen and congested, which in turn become red marks. If the metabolism is slow, the red marks may take a long time to resolve.
Brown Marks
When the skin tissue is stimulated, melanin will be secreted to protect the damaged areas, causing melanin deposition. Even after the acne had healed, it might leave behind brown scars.
Bump Holes
If the technique to expel acne content is incorrect (often with hands squeezing the spot), not only will the skin tissue be damaged, the dermis may also be damaged, causing fibrosis of the scar tissue. The skin tissue will then tether to the underlying layer and form bump holes.
Acne Scars
When the skin tissue is damaged, excessive hyperplasia may occur during the collagen repair process and lead to the formation of acne scars.
Principle of Laser Acne Mark Removal
Laser energy can reach the dermis, effectively remove acne marks, stimulate collagen generation, shrink oil glands, reduce facial oil secretion and prevent acne reoccurrence while shrinking pores and smoothing bump holes.
Principle of Picosecond Laser to Remove Acne Marks
Compared with traditional laser, Picosecond laser has shorter downtime and the pain is greatly reduced, so it can shorten the treatment time and effectively remove acne pigmentation scars, improved bump holes and large pores.
Laser Atrophic Scars Removal
Causes of Atrophic Scars
Atrophic scars are caused by acne-induced inflammation that damages the underlying skin tissue. Bacterial infection and squeezing of the acne spots can aggravate the inflammation, leading to atrophic or hypertrophic scars.
Types of Atrophic Scars
Atrophic scars are subdivided into the following three types:
Ice Pick Scars
Ice pick scars are often small, deep indentations. These V-shaped epithelial tracts are less than 2-mm wide and have a sharp border that continues vertically to the deep dermis. They are one of the more difficult scars to cure.
Boxcar Scars
Boxcar scars are round to oval depressions with clearly defined outline, they are usually 1.5 to 4mm in diameter and they can resemble a chickenpox scar.
Rolling Scars
Rolling scars may lack definite boundaries. They have curved edges and a more uneven appearance. These are the largest scars, measuring up to 5 mm in diameter.
Principle of CO2 laser of atrophic scars removal
The principle is to use the 10600nm fractional carbon dioxide laser and convert the moisture in the epidermis and dermis into heat energy at 50-70 degrees, instantly vaporize excess skin tissue, then stimulate skin tissue and collagen regeneration and restructuring.
Principle of Picosecond Laser of Atrophic Scars Removal
Combined with PicoWay picosecond laser, the holographic fractional handpiece generates LIOBs (laser-induced optical decomposition) between the dermis and epidermis, stimulate self-repair of skin and gently builds new collagen and elastin, rebuilding the skin tissue and cells.

FAQ
It is generally recommended to have 4 to 6 treatments, depending on the type of acne scars, colour of the acne scars, and the location. You may notice the acne scars are lightened a few days after each course of treatment.
It is a normal to experience burning sensation, slight redness, dryness or peeling within one week after the treatment. The most important thing after spots/acne marks removal is to moisturize the skin. Apply face cream immediately after washing your face every day. It is best to apply a moisturizing mask for several days in a row. In addition, please follow the post-treatment suggestions below:
- Use SPF 30 or above and sunscreen products with both UVA and UVB protection, and avoid prolonged exposure under the sun to avoid pigmentation caused by UV
- Do not use any products that irritate the skin such as exfoliators or products containing fruit acids, vitamin C, alcohol and whitening ingredients
- Avoid using hot water when cleansing
- Do not engage in high-temperature activities such as bathing, sauna, hot yoga, etc.
- Do not undergo any high energy medical aesthetic procedures
People who are using acne medicine or topical retinoids, pregnant, suffering from Systemic Lupus Erythematosus or sunburned are not suitable for laser treatments. Please contact us if you have any questions.
